Ex-workers of NMP reject ex-gratia package

Kumasi, Jan 29, GNA- Former employees of the National Mobilisation Programme (NMP) in the Ashanti Region on Thursday kicked against the government’s decision to pay them two months’ salary as ex-gratia, saying it contravenes the Labour Law, NLCD 157, 1967.

The law, they said, clearly states that, “the condition under which severance pay and the amount of such pay shall be payable shall be matters for negotiation between the employer or his representative and the worker or his representative”.

These were contained in a statement and signed by Mr Kwabena Ampofo-Addai, the spokesperson for the workers on Thursday. They called on the government to open negotiations with them through their counsel, Nana Agyei Ampofo, to arrive at a decent and better ex-gratia package.
