Mahama expected to crack Gambian impasse

Former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama is expected to resolve the impasse between Gambian presidents Yahayah Jameh and president-elect Adama Barrow.

Mr Mahama has left Ghana for Abuja, Nigeria Monday, for an ECOWAS meeting where he is serving as a mediator in the Jameh-Barrow impasse.

There are high hopes Mr Mahama who has earned the respect of fellow African leaders for accepting defeat in the 2016 elections and smoothly handing over power, on January 7 will get Mr Jameh, who has governed Gambia for over 22 years to do same.

ECOWAS chair, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf told Mahama ECOWASis confident he will deliver.

However Adama Barrow extoled Ghana’s democracy as he commends the smooth transfer of power from the NDC led government under John Mahama and the new NPP led government as the nation celebrates the investiture of president Nana Akufo-Addo.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was led by the Chief Justice, Theodora Georgina Wood to take the oath of office before thousands, at the inaugural ceremony held at the Black Stars square on Saturday January 7, 2017.

“…We must do the work the season demands,” he charged in his inaugural speech.

He has become the 5th president of the 4th Republic.

In a statement, Adama Barrow said “I am hopeful that the presidency of H.E Akufo-Addo is going to carry on the great work of President John D. Mahama.”
