A/R: Taxi kills one, injures 16

A taxi cab ran into a group of children killing one instantly and injuring 16 others at Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya district of the Ashanti Region.

The incident happened at about 8pm Saturday night when the children had gathered by the streets to watch celebrations following the inauguration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as president.

According to police, the “inexperienced” driver had gone for his brother’s taxi cab, to join the jubilations.

But he lost control of the car and ran into the children.

Following the incident, the body of four-year-old Abena Kyerewaa has since been deposited at the Nkawie Government Hospital while two of the injured were also rushed to the same hospital for treatment.

Seven were taken to the Toase Government Hospital and six of them, who were in critical condition, were also referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Reports, however, suggest that residents have set the taxi cab ablaze.

The taxi driver and his brother have since been arrested by the Nkawie police.

DSP Enoch Abrokwah, Ashanti Regional Commander of the MTTD, confirmed the incident to Class News’ Ashanti Regional correspondent Hafiz Tijani.
