Police busts car stealing syndicate

Kumasi, Jan 28, GNA – A combined team of police personnel from Accra and Kumasi on Tuesday busted a car stealing syndicate which had been operating between Accra and Kumasi for sometime now. In the process, six members of the syndicate were arrested and they include Kofi Denkyi, Frank Duku alias “Owuo”, Alhaji Yahaya, Issa Yakubu. Ali Issifu and a female accomplice whose identity was not immediately known, and three of the suspected stolen vehicles had been retrieved.

They have been placed in police custody pending further investigations.

Briefing the press in Kumasi on Wednesday, Mr Ofosu Mensah-Gyeabour, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, said on January 26, while on patrol at about 2 am, the Accra police intercepted a vehicle, which had been stolen from its owner by Denkyi and two others now on the run.

He said during interrogation, Denkyi mentioned Duku and others who were all based in Kumasi as those who had been receiving the stolen cars for sale.

Mr Mensah-Gyeabour said the police proceeded to Kumasi with Denkyi who identified his accomplices and with the support of the Kumasi police arrested them.

According to the Regional Police Commander, the suspects would be put before court soon after investigations.
