Credit union managers urged to be proactive

Agona Swedru, Jan 26, GNA – Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng, District Chief Executive for Agona, on Saturday cut the sod for work to begin on a 1.2 billion-cedi office complex for the Agona Swedru Teachers’ Co-operative Credit Union, at Swedru.

Mr Agyabeng urged credit union managers to invest the contributions of members to promote their welfare.

The building comprising 16 offices, a conference hall for 600 people, boardroom, banking hall, strong room and a car park would be executed in phases.

He noted that the union had extended various forms of financial assistance to its members, especially teachers pursing further education and urged the managers to invest more to enable its members to benefit. The DCE appealed to the managers and board members to convince more teachers to join.

Mr Agyabeng commended them for their foresight, adding that, the Agona District Credit Union had been described as the best in the country.

Mr James Yamoah, Manager of the Swedru Teachers’ Co-operative Credit Union, said the scheme had “matured” and was supporting members. He said the membership had increased to 1,300 because of the financial assistance the union had been giving to solve the financial and economic problems of its members.

Mr Yamoah said that the union was operated from the hall of the former manager, Mr J.K Amoah, but moved to the District Office of the Ghana Education Service and was now in rented premises. He urged the members to help complete the project on scheduled
