The people of Pokukrom appeal for assistance

Pokukrom (Ash), Jan. 26, GNA- The people of Pokukrom in the Ahafo Ano South district have appealed to the government and the Ahafo Ano South district assembly to assist them complete an electrification project.

They said even though they procured low-tension electricity poles over 10 years ago, they have to date not been connected to the grid. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on their plight, Mr John Botah, assemblyman for Pokukrom said the community had also contributed and bought 50 bags of cement at the cost of three million cedis for the rehabilitation of their six-classroom school, but that the work involved in the rehabilitation was more than the quality of cement they bought. He said both the Primary and Junior Secondary School (SSS) blocks were in deplorable conditions and therefore needed emergency assistance to prevent their collapse.

Mr Botah said besides the electricity, the town needed potable water and the rehabilitation of some roads in the area, adding that though the district assembly had provided them with accommodation for the police and the area council, they still needed assistance. The assemblyman said extra classes were being organised for the 84 Junior Secondary School three pupils who will write their final Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in April and therefore urged them to learn hard.

Nana Opoku Boakye Yiadom, Chairman of the Area Council, commended the district assembly for the provision of some amenities, especially the cassava processing plant to process their cassava and asked the people to remain united and committed to the development of the area.
