Alumnus gives to KNUST hospital

Kumasi, Jan. 23, GNA – Alumni of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) resident in the United States on Friday presented hospital equipment valued at 500,000 dollars to the KNUST hospital in Kumasi.

Gleaning The World International, an NGO based in Houston Texas, USA, donated the equipment.

Presenting them, Professor Seth Opuni Asiamah, General Secretary of the alumni association, said it was to show their commitment to the development and progress of the university.

He said work would soon commence on the alumni hostel, which had been on the drawing board for sometime now.

Professor Asiamah said members of the association would continue to use their influence to assist in the development of the university. Professor Kwesi Andam, Vice Chancellor of the University, who received the items, thanked the Association for the gesture.

He said modern universities all over the world depended much on the support of their alumni associations for the provision of infrastructure and other amenities in their campuses.

Prof Andam said the hospital, apart from serving the students and staff of the university, also catered for about 150,000 people from the surrounding communities.

Dr Ben Amponsah Gorman, acting Director of Medical Services of KNUST, said the hospital had been earmarked by the government to serve as an emergency unit for accident victims on the Kumasi-Accra road. He called for the refurbishment of the theatre and wards to enable the hospital provide quality health care delivery.
