Electrician jailed 10 years over MP’s phone

An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced an Electrician to 10 years imprisonment for dishonestly receiving a Samsung Galaxy S4 phone valued GHC 1,500.00 through robbery.

Zebulon Anyeteye aka Abdul Rashid Sowah was found guilty by the court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin Doku.

Anyeteye was said to have dishonestly received the phone belonging to Gershon Gbediame, Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South on January 11, 2014 at Community 17, Lashibi.

This was after the MP was robbed at the dawn on the same day by some armed robbers.

The case of prosecution was that on January 11, 2014 at Community 17, Lashibi within the hours of 02:30 hours and 04:00 hours eight armed robbers attacked the MP at his residence.

The robbers armed with pump action gun and pistols assaulted the occupants of the house including the MP and made away with six mobile phones, three laptops, two Ipads and a set of jewellery, cash of GHC 5,000.00 and $7,500.00.

Prosecution said on the same day, a report was made to the Police by the MP and during investigations Anyeteye was arrested at First Junction Melcom, Accra with the phone.

According to the Prosecutor, when the room of the convict was later searched, the original housing of the complainant’s phone was retrieved.

When the Police quizzed him, he mentioned one Payin aka Aya, now at large as the one who gave him the phone to sell.
