The People’s National Convention (PNC) has welcomed the decision by the government to organise a fitting state funeral for the former President of the Third republic, Dr. Hilla Limann. In a statement, the PNC said Dr. Limann’s death last Friday came as a shock to the party and all Nkrumaists, adding that his death is the greatest loss to the Nkrumaists family since the demise of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1972. It said Dr. Limann was very scrupulous in adhering to constitutional rule. And the unblemished record of the 3rd Republic and the high level of honesty and integrity, which he personally exhibited, underscored this far. The PNC said Dr. Limann’s refusal to leave the country after the 1981 coup was a further testimony to his great sense of devotion and honesty. It hoped Dr. Limann’s death would galvanise public support for the immediate rehabilitation of the families of all former Heads of State and payment of reparation to other political activists whose assets were confiscated, to pave the way for national reconciliation. The statement said the only lasting tribute the Nkurmaist Family can pay to the memory of the late former President is to conclude the unity process he initiated with other elders of the family. gri
