15 perish in Cape Coast-Accra Highway road accident

Fifteen people have lost their lives in a gory accident on the Accra-Cape Coast Highway.

The accident which occurred around the Essarkyir junction in the Ekumfi district near Mankesim Sunday morning involved a Yutong bus with registration number GN.3973-09 and a Sprinter mini bus with registration number AS 5622-14.

The two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision resulting in the instant death of the 15 passengers who were on the sprinter traveling from Accra to Obuasi in the Ashanti region

The injured, predominantly from the fully loaded Yutong bus which was on its way from Tarkoradi to Accra, have been sent to the Apam hospital in the Gomoa West district for treatment while the dead have been deposited at the Saltpond government hospital morgue in the Mfantseman municipality of the central region.

Speaking to Starr News the Ekumfi district police commander indicated that the police are yet to establish what lead to the head-on collision of the two vehicles.

He however admonished motorists to be very careful when plying the road so as to reduce the tendencies for accident.
