Haruna Iddrisu retains Tamale South

Collated provisional results coming in from the Tamale South Constituency in the Northern Region indicates that Mr Iddrisu Haruna, the incumbent Member of Parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has retained the seat.

He polled 51,839 votes (71.82 per cent) to beat his closes contender, Mr Yakubu Yussuf of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who had 18,932 (26.03 per cent).

Mr Abdul Jalil Kassim of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) polled 625 votes (0.86 per cent), while Mr Abdallah Alhassan Gooji of the People’s National Convention (PNC) had 193 votes or 0.27 per cent of the total number of votes cast.

Mr Musah Mohammed, the Collation Officer for the Constituency who announced these, also gave the provisional results of the Presidential election as 51,839 votes for the NDC and 19,047 for the NPP Presidential candidate.

Mr Mohammed said there were 931 rejected votes in the Presidential poll.
