The Governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) may challenge the results of the December 7 presidential elections in the Supreme Court should the Electoral Commission declare in favour of opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr Abraham Amaliba, a member of the legal team of the party has said.
Provisional results collated from 252 of 275 constituencies so far by Class FM put Mr Akufo-Addo ahead with 54.44% while Mr Mahama has 43.69%.
But speaking in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM on Friday, 9 December, Mr Amaliba noted that there were reported cases of over-voting in some parts of the Ashanti Region, strong hold of the opposition NPP.
“We have lawyers collating those pink sheets [result slips] and will handle it at the appropriate time,” he said.
“A decision may be taken either to go to court,” he said, adding their intention is to promote fair play in Ghana’s elections. The point is will it change the result? If our Pink Sheet says it will not, then we will know what to do.”
Meanwhile, the Chair of the election management body, Charlotte Osei is yet to release the certified results of the presidential elections.
