EC to increase screens and ballot issuers at polling centres where poll started late

The Electoral Commission (EC) says it has made provisions for polling stations that started the presidential and parliamentary elections later than the scheduled time to increase the number of screens and ballot issuers to speed up the process.

Addressing the press on the latest update in the ongoing voting exercise, the Director of Electoral Services, Mr. Samuel Tetteh said, voters who will also join the queue before close of poll [5pm] will be allowed to vote no matter how long the queue is.

Polls started late in some polling stations because electoral materials were not deployed to the polling centres on time.

But Mr. Tetteh in his address said, ‘’In relation to the late starting of the poll, we have also made provisions in such a way that the District Officer can increase the number of screens as well as the number of ballot issuers to facilitate the process.’’

The EC he noted has not had any report of breakdown of their devices.

Specific instruction he explained has been given to their officers for the batteries to be changed every four hours and if the instructions are followed, they will not encounter any problem.
