Wa (Upper West Region) 22 Jan. ;98

Thirteen fresh cases of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis have been reported in the Upper West Region this year resulting in six deaths. Dr. Francis Banka, senior medical officer in charge of public health at the regional health directorate, confirmed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Wa. He said out of the 13 cases, six were reported at Lawra, four at Jirapa and one each at Nadowli, Sissala and Wa districts. Three of the deaths occurred at home while the other three died in hospital. Dr. Banka said sufficient vaccines have been provided at the various health centres and urged those who were not immunised last year to go for immunization. He asked the people to report all cases of unusual deaths in their communities, particularly neck pains, to the health authorities. Last year, an outbreak of CSM in the Northern, Upper East and West regions claimed several lives. gri
