TMA to wage war on wrongful parking in the Municipality

Tema, Jan 16 GNA- The Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) is taking stringent measures on drivers who park wrongfully and indiscriminately in order to bring sanity the city.

The Assembly therefore intends strengthening the transport operations division of the urban roads so that in collaboration with the city guards and the police they could tackle the issue of wrong parking of vehicles, traffic management and road safety.

Mr Samuel Evans Ashong Narh, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tema said this in an address at the opening of the third ordinary general meeting of the TMA.

He said upgrading of six signalised intersections would be tackled and provision of appropriate road markings.

Measures, he said, would be put in place to enhance rural electrification to promote industrialisation, which include the procurement of electric poles for villages such as Katamanso, Appolonia, Kubekro, Marlejor, Kpone, Seduase, Okukushibialie, and Saasabi, among others.

The assembly is also sourcing funds under the Village Infrastructure Project (VIP) to rehabilitate the Nmai Dzorn dam to enhance the cultivation of vegetables in the area.

He said efforts are also being made to improve supply of potable water and promote good environmental sanitation in some rural communities and public schools in the municipality under the Community Water and Sanitation Programme (CWSP).

Mr Ashong Narh said in order to provide security to residents and workers, the assembly is in the process of rehabilitating all non-functioning streetlights and the installation of new ones in some areas.

He said the Ministry of Energy would assist the assembly with funds to undertake the project. 16 Jan 04
