Koforidua commercial sex workers appeal to Presidential candidates

Commercial sex workers in Koforidua, the Eastern region capital have appealed to Presidential candidates vying for the presidency in the December 7 polls to economically empower them to earn a living to take them out of the business should any of them win power.

According to some of the sex workers, they are eager to quit exchanging sex for money if they get a decent vocation.

Speaking to Kasapa News Eastern regional correspondent,Kojo Ansah, midnight, the commercial sex workers with ages between 18 to 32 admitted that, they were forced into the act due to financial difficulties while few admitted engaging in the business for sexual pleasure.

Two of the Commercial sex workers, both single mothers narrated that, they need money to take care of their children in school hence exchanging sex for money.

While some of the commercial sex workers are adamant towards politics, some of them want Nana Akufo Addo to win the 2016 polls with a hope to help them.

currently, the price range for commercial sexual activity in Koforidua ranges from GH30 to Gh100 depending on the sex position, location and duration.

The region is gradually becoming a hub for prostitution as some prostitutes travel from Accra, Kumasi and other parts of the country to engage in the business.

Minors were previously among the prostitutes who ply their trade in the regional capital however, the Eastern Regional Child Protection Committee task force has clamped down on child prostitution reducing the menace in the municipality.
