According to the story, tension is mounting at Korkordzor, near Mile Eleven, Weija in Accra over the siting of a privately-owned mortuary which the residents consider too near their homes. The mortuary, “Ebenezer Funeral Parlour”, is again considered by the people a potential source of health hazard as it is only two kilometres away from the Weija Water Reservoir. GRI
In an another front page story headlined: “African Govts must be transparent – Arinze”, the Times reports Cardinal Francis Arinze, Head of the Pontifical Council on Inter-religious Dialogue of the Vatican, Rome as calling for tolerance and transparency in governance in Africa to mitigate the suffering of the people. Cardinal Arinze, a Nigerian currently visiting Ghana, told a congregation at the Matyrs of Uganda Church in Accra that the continent is passing through a most turbulent period of her history. He urged African countries to uphold justice and love to make “our short stay on earth more pleasing and fruitful”. GRI
“GNAT asks WAEC to dialogue with examiners”, is a front page story in the Times which says the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has asked the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to invite representatives of examiners and stakeholders in education to discuss the current levels of remunerations for the examiners. According to GNAT, this would avert any event that might ruin the smooth working of the council. GRI
