GES official warns absentee teachers

Makyinmabre (B/A), Jan 13, GNA- Teachers who absent themselves from school without permission will lose their salaries for the number of days that they would be absent.

Mr. Jarvis R. Agyeman-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education, gave the warning when he paid surprise visits to check the attendance of both teachers and pupils in schools at Makyinmabre, Beboano, Nsugum and Chechewere in the district.

His visits followed reports that some teachers failed to attend classes for the first week of re-opening of schools.

The District Director deplored the practice by some teachers to use the first week of re-opening to clean the school compound without teaching and called for a stop to it.

Mr Agyeman-Badu said he discovered that 15 out of the 72 students and one out of the four teachers of the Junior Secondary School (JSS) at Makyinmabre reported when the school re-opened.

The headmaster of the school was also absent.

Mr. Agyeman-Badu called on executives of School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to visit schools to find out problems facing teachers and pupils and help map out strategies to address them.
