DKM microfinance victims root for NPP

Customers of the DKM Micro Finance Company are giving their unflinching support to the New Patriotic Party in the 2016 elections.

Speaking to Onua Business News, the spokesperson for the affected customers of a ponzi scheme operated by DKM Microfinance Company, Maxwell Mahama says the group with membership of 63,000 will be voting for the NPP and its presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the upcoming December 7th elections.

The decision follows promised by Nana Akufo-Addo to investigate the issues leading to the collapse of the company and also ensure that depositors get their monies back and in full. He said this when the Brong Ahafo Region as part of his campaign tour.

The aggrieved customers most of whom are in the Brong Ahafo Region says even though other political parties including the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) have assured them of getting their deposits back if voted into power, they believe that the NPP stand a better chance of winning the 2016 elections, hence their support for the party.

Maxwell Mahama further added that, the inability of government to refund their monies to them in full, even after the numerous promises, is an indication that they are only paying them lip service to their plight. The monies given to them so far by a liquidator is woefully inadequate, they complained.

The Bank of Ghana in 2015 halted the operations of DKM and other microfinance companies for contravening the microfinance regulations of the central bank.

The company as of the time had over 90, 000 customers with GH 77 million in deposits. President John Mahama ordered the freezing of accounts of the owners as well as the auction of properties to pay the debts owed the customers.

The Registrar-General’s Department under the Ministry of Justice has been engaged by the BoG to handle the liquidation processes of DKM. However, only a handful of the customers have received part payments of their investments.
