Director of Education meets heads of basic schools

Tepa (Ash), Jan 11, GNA- Mrs Dora Doris Amaniampong, the Ahafo-Ano North District Director of Education, has asked heads of basic schools and circuit supervisors in the district not to be happy with the position of the district in the national ranking of last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The Ahafo-Ano North district placed 20th from the 110 districts. It presented 939 candidates for the examination out of which 618 qualified for entry into Senior Secondary Schools (SSS). She said in spite of the position of the district, there was the need for improvement and called on them to team up with other stakeholders especially parents, School Management Committees (SMCs) and pupils to achieve better results.

Mrs Amaniampong was speaking with heads of basic schools and circuit supervisors at Tepa on Thursday to review last term’s teaching and learning method in the district and plan strategies for this term. She was not happy about the monitoring and supervisory roles of some head teachers and headmistresses and reminded them of their role as school administrators.

In an open forum, the heads appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the timely supply of some basic school items like teachers lesson notebooks, class registers and textbooks to enhance their work.

They described allowances being paid to them as woefully inadequate and appealed to the GES for upwards adjustment and prompt payment.
