Leader of Community-Based Organisation bolts with money

Kuntanase (Ash), Jan 11, GNA- The leader of the Akokofe Community-Based Organisation (CBO), whose name was not disclosed, is reported to have bolted with eight million cedis out of the 12.5 million cedis given to the organisation for the HIV/AIDS programme.

Mr Asante Bafo, the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Focal Person on AIDS, who disclosed this to newsmen last Wednesday, said a formal letter had been sent to the CBO to refund the money or in default be sent to court.

Mr Bafo said the CBO leader who collected the money through the district assembly from the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) could not be traced.

He said, however, that the other nine CBOs in the district had submitted their reports to the District AIDS Committee. Mr Bafo cautioned CBOs to use funds allocated to them for public education and sensitisation on AIDS and said the funds were not gifts since any misapplication or embezzlement would lead to their imprisonment.
