The disqualified flagbearer of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Thomas Nuamah Ward-Brew, says he will not throw his weight behind any of the political parties vying for the presidency in the December 7 elections.
Mr. Ward-Brew said his fellow disqualified candidates, who have thrown their weights behind some political parties, are only fuelling the already heightened tension in the country. The Supreme Court on Wednesday, November 23 dismissed a suit filed by Mr. Ward-Brew against the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC).
He had wanted the Court to suspend the upcoming general elections. A seven-member panel of judges chaired by Justice Sophia Adinyira described the suit as lacking merit both in form and substance and as such awarded a GH¢3,000 cost against Mr. Ward-Brew.
Speaking on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on Wednesday, the disqualified flagbearer explained that “the stakes are high. The heat is too much for the country. The pockets of violence are too much” and so by adding or supporting any of the political parties, it will increase the tension.
He said “these two parties [NDC and NPP] started politics long time and that has built up too much tension in the country”. Mr. Ward-Brew observed “development should not be politicized” but this has been politicized creating tension in the country.
