Outgoing NDC MPs back Mahama

Legislators from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who will be out of office this year have formed a group to embark on regional campaigns for President John Mahama’s re-election.

According to the outgoing MPs, who are operating under the name 2016 NDC MPs Exit Group, their priority is to ensure a one-touch victory for Mr Mahama while ensuring that the party maintains a majority in parliament after the December polls.

At a press conference organised on Thursday, November 17 in Accra, Deputy Majority Leader in parliament, Alfred Agbesi said based on the “impressive and unprecedented development of infrastructure across the country,” there was a need to retain Mr Mahama for another four-year term.

Mr Mahama recently unveiled the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange and the Bukom Sports Complex within the week with more inaugurations expected in the build-up to the elections.

According to the group, “Ghana stands to gain a lot from Mr Mahama’s leadership in a second term”.

Mr Agbesi disclosed that the group has already embarked on campaign visits to the Volta, Central and Greater Accra regions and hopes to “cover the entire country before the 7th December polls”.
