Ghana Seeks Chinese Investment to Boost Automotive Industry

The Ghanaian government has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a favorable environment for automotive companies, including Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, to thrive in the domestic market.
The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, has announced plans to attract additional Chinese investment into the country’s automotive sector.
During a visit to Zonda Tec Ghana Limited’s facilities in Tema, Minister Ofosu-Agyare emphasized the government’s resolve to support the growth of the automotive industry as a key driver of job creation and industrial development. She revealed that the government is reviewing the auto policy to include the production of heavy-duty trucks, which Zonda Tec Ghana Limited specializes in.
“The auto policy does not cover the big trucks that they do, so we are reviewing the auto policy to include what they do,” she said. “These are the things that will encourage them to produce more. I will be travelling to China under the instructions of His Excellency with them and other Chinese companies. We want to go to China and bring more people to invest in the auto sector and other sub-sectors of the economy. I am happy at what I am seeing, and I encourage Ghanaians to patronize these products” she stated.
The Minister is set to travel to China with Zonda Tec Ghana Limited and other Chinese companies to attract more investors to the automotive sector and other sub-sectors of the economy. She encouraged Ghanaians to patronize locally produced products, expressing optimism about the potential for growth in the industry.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, Yang Yang, has expressed plans to deepen the company’s operations in Ghana. The company currently assembles pickups and SUVs, operates three factories, and has eight branches, employing over 500 staff. Yang Yang described Ghana as a positive environment for business, with potential for growth and development.
