DCE advises youth to help combat conflicts

Aflao, Jan. 4, GNA – The youth have been called upon to assist government in maintaining peace in the country to avoid the experience of wars in the sub-region.

Mr Linus Koffie, Ketu District Chief Executive (DCE), who made the call, said the Youth could do that by being mindful of utterances and deeds, which have the potential of creating tensions, particularly in an election year.

Addressing a get together by the youth in the district to climax the New Year’s festivities at Sepenukope Beach at Aflao on Saturday, he said peace created by the government through adherence to good governance is of envy to other nationals and needed to be maintained.

Indoor games were played as part of the occasion but a swimming competition advertised as the main event was cancelled because of lack of sponsors to donate prizes.

Many of the youth however, failed to enter the enclosed venue for the celebration due to their inability to pay the 10,000 cedis gate fee, per person.

Mr Koffie told the youth not to relate with each other on the basis of their affiliation to political parties but to come together and share ideas and resources to become productive citizens.

Mr Koffie asked them to take advantage of the numerous credit facilities in the system to start their own businesses to minimise poverty.

He said plans were underway to build a Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) at Aflao, Wheta and Afife to bring SSS education closer to the youth. Mr Thomas Seshie, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate for Ketu-North constituency said government is pursuing education vigorously to end ignorance, which is the basis of poverty in society. Togbe Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area advised the youth against indiscriminate sex to avoid contracting HIV/AIDS.

Mr Dan Ofei, a Spokesman for the youth appealed to the District Assembly to build a recreational centre in the district and also resume work on the Sports Stadium at Aflao.
