EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS ENDS IN TAMALE

The second National Eucharistic Congress of the Catholic Church has ended at Tamale width a call on Christians to work for the unity of humanity and the nation. The theme for the week-long congress was “One bread, One Body One Lord of All.” The sermon at the closing Mass was preached by the Papal Legate to the Congress and Archbishop of Douala in Cameroun, His Eminence Cardinal Christian Tumi. He said Christians are the soul of humanity and their nation, and faithful Christians are the people who bring together the various ethnic groups in the country, Cardinal Tumi, who also baptised and confirmed a number of people at the ceremony, said through the Sacraments, all Christians are integrated into one body of Christ, inspite of their diverse ethnic, social, or national differences. Baptism, therefore brings a new life to the Christian making it imperative for him or her to always abide by the truth. At another ceremony, Cardinal Tumi laid the foundation stone for a new chapel at the Pastoral Formation Centre at Tamale. He said churches are Sacraments that signify the presence of God in the communities. Cardinal Tumi commended the Tamale Archdiocese for establishing the Formation Centre which is a retreat centre for spiritual development. He called on Christians who wish to establish and enjoy a close relationship with God, to read the Bible regularly and listen to its interpretation and advise from the Clergy. Pilgrims who attended the Congress undertook a three-hour clean-up exercise in the Tamale central business area. gri
