Politicians cautioned against issuing threats at opponents

Akim Oda (E/R), Jan 2, GNA- The Akim Oda District Pastor of the Church of Pentecost, Rev. Aaron Kyei, has cautioned politicians to guard against issuing threats and inflammatory language against their opponents during the electioneering campaign.

He said such practices amounted to political intolerance and dictatorial tendencies inconsistent with a budding democratic culture that is being developed in the country over a decade now.

Rev. Kyei who was speaking at a reception he and his wife held for the aged and widows at Akim Oda on the New Year, said in democracy every person has the right to take a stand on socio-political issues and express his or her opinion freely.

He called on the opposition to desist from the “unholy habit” of finding fault with every policy of the government while “over-zealous” supporters of the government should also learn to accommodate the opposing views of others.

Rev. Kyei urged Ghanaians to contribute meaningfully towards peaceful general election this year.

An Elder of the Church, Mr Joseph Mensah, reminded the aged that they had a responsibility of checking the rising rate of crimes and immorality in the country by educating the youth to change for the better.

He urged Christians to help promote peace in the country in times of provocation.
