10,000 basic school children to benefit from scholarship scheme – Mahama

The President of the Republic of Ghana and flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama says his government has rolled out a scholarship scheme to support ten thousand four hundred basic students valued at GHC 6000.00 per student for four years.

He made this pronouncement when he commissioned the Frafraha Community Day SHS in the Adenta Frafraha Municipality – adding that for the purposes of affordability and enrollment, the government has also absorbed all the fees to be paid except that of PTA.

The facility has about 16 classrooms block with a Head teacher’s bungalow and eight teacher’s bungalows. The school has also benefited from a fifty-six sitter bus and a double-decker pickup.

Speaking before the chiefs, elders and the people, the President said the Greater Accra region is to have ten of the schools and Frafraha is the first. And that creating these schools is a demonstration of their commitment to producing quality education.

In order to bring ICT to the door steps of the children, they are providing internet facility to about five hundred and fifty-five schools. Some schools will also start using tablet as a benefit of their E-book programme.

The President said the Frafraha Community Day SHS has a learning tool called ibox which is like television set that teaches the children especially in mathematics and science.
