CODEO commends EC over verification system

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has commended the Electoral Commission for deploying a verification system for next month’s elections.

As part of measures to enhance the integrity of the electoral system, the commission has said it will insist on the verification process of voting in order to ensure that the system is not manipulated.

Commenting on the move, the National Coordinator for CODEO, Albert Arhin, told Starr News the move by the EC will enhance transparency in the December polls.

“It enhances transparency, and at the same time there are people who are there attesting to the fact that you came and the machine was unable to pick you; and they are there and signing. And now if anyone refuses to sign and the presiding officer believes that the right thing has been done, he will go ahead and leave you,” he said.

Ghana goes to the polls on December 7, to elect a president and parliamentarians. President John Mahama of the ruling National Democratic Congress and Nana Akufo-Addo of the opposition New Patriotic Party are the front runners.
