We do not want mischief-makers – EC warns media

Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Charlotte Osei is blaming a section of the media for what she describes as the high political tension in the country with some three weeks to the general elections.

The EC chair is accusing some media organizations of promoting ‘partisan agenda’ and ‘causing chaos’ ahead of the polls.

Speaking at a forum in Accra on Thursday, Charlotte Osei called for the need to check media houses deliberately propagating partisan agenda in the country since they had the tendency to destabilize the electoral set up.

She warned, “promoting partisan agenda and causing chaos for the public should totally be avoided for peaceful elections” adding that the media is expected to play its professional role in the 2016 general election.

She said “We need the media to monitor the results from polling station to collation center but we do not want anyone to arrogate themselves especially because of the risk involved in our elections”.
