Residents Appeal To IGP And Chrag

Asutuare-Junction (Greater Accra), 12 Jan.,

Residents of Lolorvor, a farming community, near Asutuare Junction in the Greater Accra Region, have petitioned the inspector-general of police and the commission on Human Rights and administrative justice to stop policemen from constantly harrassing them. They have also called on the IGP to order the Dodowa Police to return 30 Jerrycans of diesel Oil, a drum of engine oil and guns seized from them by the police during a dawn operation last year. In a petition signed by one Mr.. Ambrose Kofi, they alleged that on May 20, last year, police personnel from Dodowa “stormed the village at dawn” seized the items and arrested some residents, who were later granted bail after paying 200,000 cedis. The petition explained that the fuel was meant for tractors to plough their farms for the cultivation of maize and vegetables. It said armed policemen again invaded the village at dawn in August and arrested five people, including a nursing mother, and kept them at the police headquarters in Accra for five days. The petition added that a charcoal dealer lost 800,000 cedis when the police broke into her room.
