GNAFF Meet To Take Stock

Senase (Brong Ahafo), 9 Jan.

Members of the Berekum District Branch of the Ghana National Association of farmers and fishermen GNAFF have met at Senase, near Berekum, to take stock of their activities and adopt new strategies to enhance their operations. The discussed new modalities for the selection of nucleus and outgrower farmer units to ensure that assistance from the government and financial institutions benefit only genuine farmers. They have already formed more than 40 societies, each society comprising about 10 full time farmers with separate bank accounts to attract financial assistance. Madam Yaa Badu, Brong Ahafo Regional President of the Association said this would offer effective monitoring of farmers activities to ensure that they use such assistance for the purpose for which they were granted. She announced that GNAFF has evolved a scheme under which farmers in the nucleus and outgrower groups would benefit from expert advice in the cultivation on crops including non-traditional ones of suitable lands to maximise production to meet targets.
