Thirty-nine babies delivered on Christmas day

Kumasi, Dec 26, GNA – Thirty-nine babies were delivered at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and two other hospitals in the Kumasi metropolis on the Christmas Day.

KATH recorded the highest of 24 new babies while the Manhyia and South Suntreso hospitals recorded nine and six births respectively. Speaking to the GNA at the main labour ward of KATH, Miss Evelyn Boateng, Principal Nursing Officer, said 13 males and eight females were delivered.

However, one of the deliveries, a girl died in the mother’s uterus before birth.

She indicated that the rest of the babies and their mothers were doing well.

Miss Grace Antwi, Midwifery Superintendent, said two babies, a male and female were delivered at the at the Official’s Ward of KATH. “One female was delivered at the ‘A1’ ward and is doing well with the mother,” Miss Comfort Borkey, Midwifery Superintendent, said. At the Manhyia hospital, Miss Grace Atimpe, midwife and Miss Juliana Diyana, Health Aid in-charge of the maternity ward, said nine babies, eight males and one female were delivered.

The babies and their mothers were in good condition and had been discharged.

At the Suntreso hospital, Nursing Officer on-duty, Miss Margaret Barwuah, said six deliveries, four females and two males were recorded. She said both the mothers and babies “are okay” and expressed the hope that the mothers would keep to advices to ensure their survival and that of the babies.
