Twifo Praso (C/R) Dec 25, GNA- A self styled goldsmith from Kwahu Praso in the Eastern Region who defrauded three farmers of their gold ornaments worth 3.7 million cedis was on Wednesday remanded until January 13, 2004.
Samuel Kwesi Mireku, 28, pleaded not guilty to defraud by false Pretences.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector George Okine told the court that sometime in August, this year Mireku, who was selling gold ornaments, went to Twifo Kyeaboso and introduced himself as a gold smith to Abla Agbenu, Afi Vorsah and Lydia Azuma, all farmers.
The three women showed interest when Mireku told them that he could shine their old ornaments for them. The women gave him gold necklaces rings worth 3.7 million cedis.
The accused put the ornaments in a lime solution, covered them and told them that he would return the following day to wash them. Mireku failed to turn up and the women became suspicious and opened the bowls, to discover that it contained only the lime solution and not their ornaments.
Accused was later found at the Twifo Praso and he was arrested.
