ECG Privatisation: Court to determine ‘locus’ of Saaka Salia in deal

An Accra High Court will on Tuesday November 15, 2016 rule on whether or not a private citizen, Saaka Salia, has locus to place an injunction on processes leading to the privatisation of the state owned power distributor, ECG.

A decision by government to cede the state power distributor to a private concessionaire has hit a snag following a suit challenging the process. Saakia Salia alleges fraud and other illegal acts perpetrated by MiDA as reasons for the injuntion being sought.

MiDA, is one of the defendants in a lawsuit filed by a member of the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, Saaka Salia, that is challenging MiDA’s competence to serve as an advisor in the concession arrangement for the ECG.

But lawyers for MiDA insist Saaka Salia is not an interested party in the case hence their call on the judge to dismiss the suit.

Speaking to journalists after Wednesday’s hearing, lawyer for Mr. Salia Samson Lardy Anyenini said he was hopeful the judgement will be in his client’s favour.
