Fanteakwa gives prominence to HIV/AIDS education

Begoro, Dec 23, GNA – The Fanteakwa District Director of Education, Mr Stephen Peter-Andoh, has called on Head teachers to draw up an elaborate programme next year to educate pupils on HIV/AIDS. Making the call at a seminar for personnel of GES at Begoro on Monday, he reminded them that their pupils are “vulnerable and easy targets” for contracting HIV/AIDS through the exchange of blades and sharp instruments.

He said although casual sex is the major means of contracting HIV/AIDS pupils could contract it at school through the sharing of blades out of ignorance.

”Despite the proliferation of NGOs and CBOs in the crusade against the spread of the disease, HIV/AIDS is still on the increase.” Mr Peter-Andoh appealed to head teachers to insist on pupils using their own blades to sharpen pencils rather than collecting from their mates.

He called for the formation of HIV/AIDS clubs in schools to step up education on the disease.
