Aflao Hospital operating below capacity

Aflao, Dec 23, GNA – As a result of controversy over adequacy of payments for electrical works done at the Aflao District Hospital, the hospital has remained on a two-phase power supply system and cannot use some of the equipment.

Dr Michael Ahedor, the Ketu District Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), said this on Monday during a visit to the hospital by Mr Kwenya Doe, a representative of Aflao citizens based in Canada. Dr Ahedor did not disclose the name of the contracting firm but said the money needed to hook the hospital to three-phase power supply in 2001 was estimated at 50 million cedis.

He said the hospital is unable to operate its mortuary and two of its three operating theatres because of inadequate power supply. Dr Ahedor said the hospital also experiences frequent outages and does not have a standby generator and this has made the hospital to operate under capacity.

Mr Doe presented 10 clutches to signify the beginning of cooperation between the hospital and Aflao citizens in Canada.
