Community holds fund raising rally to refurbish school

Anansu (W/R), Dec. 20, GNA – The chiefs and the School Management Committee (SMC) of Anansu Local Authority Basic School near Bibiani in the Atwima District in the Western Region have held a fund-raising rally in aid of refurbishment of their school structures, most of which were built through the efforts of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the SMC.

Addressing the function, the assemblyman for the area Mr. Tweneboa Kodua thanked the Atwima district assembly for initiating the construction of a four bedroom teachers’ quarters for the town, estimated at 450 million cedis.

Mr. Kodua, who devoted his speech to girls’ education, implored traditional leaders, parents and well-meaning groups and individuals from the cocoa growing area to shift from traditionally expensive funerals and marriages into the sphere of formal education of their children, especially girls to improve their low academic performance. The chief of Anansu Nana Osei Bempah called on the government to assist in the extension electricity to Anansu, which is nine kilometres from the national grid.

Nana Bempah appealed to old students of the school to consider forming an association for a collective approach to the schools numerous demands.
