My 2nd term will be ‘period of prosperity’ – Mahama

President John Mahama has assured Ghanaians they will not have to bear the brunt of any tough decision in his second term if given the nod.

According to him, all the tough decisions have been taken in his first term. This, the President explains has resulted in “a solid foundation” for “a period of prosperity” in his second term.

He thus asked for the renewal of his mandate, arguing it will not be right and sensible to allow his opponent to come and put a structure on a foundation he has laid.

Addressing a mini rally at Anyinam in the Atiwa constituency of the Eastern region, Wednesday Mahama said “…In governance, there is always a difficult stage where tough decisions have to be taken and I admit in my first four years I’ve had to take some tough decisions.

“But I’ve taken it in the interest of the nation. It’s like putting up a building. After laying the foundation, then someone comes that allow him to put the structure on it. It is simply not possible; we can’t allow that to happen. Does this make sense to you? It doesn’t make sense.”

He added: “…This is because we all worked together to build this solid foundation, digging and everything. All the international financial institutions say from 2017 is a period of prosperity for Ghana. This means the difficult part of the work has been done. I don’t demand any tough decisions from Ghanaians anymore.”

President Mahama is on a 5-day tour of the Eastern region; the home region of his main contender Nana Akufo-Addo.
