Govt earmarks 15.8 billion cedis for Edinaman Secondary School

Elmina (C/R), Dec 18, GNA- The government has earmarked 15.8 billion cedis for rehabilitation works and the provision of infrastructure to convert the Edinaman Secondary School at Elmina, into a model school.

Work to be carried out at the school includes the construction of a science laboratory, a two-storey 12-unit classroom block, a single storey computer laboratory, a library, a girls’ dormitory and a home economics block.

The District Chief Executive, Nana Ato Arthur, who was speaking at the third ordinary meeting of the assembly on Thursday, said the project would be completed in 40 weeks.

He reiterated the determination of his administration to step up education in the area and said the assembly has spent 120 million cedis to support the education of 351 youth in the district this year. The beneficiaries include trainee-teachers, as well as pupils and students in basic, secondary and tertiary institutions in the form of bursaries and scholarships.

Mr Arthur expressed concern about the performance of candidates from the area in the Basic Education Certificate Examination, describing it as “not encouraging.”
