Armed robbers kill 10-day-old baby; beat mother to pulp

A ten-day old baby who was being transported from a health facility in Tumu in the Sissala East District of the Upper West region to the Wa regional hospital, was left to die after armed robbers not only delayed the ambulance but beat to pulp the personnel.

Balu Mohammed of Tumu-based Radford Fm reports that the driver of the vehicle appeared with a bruised face and disclosed that they had received a distressed call to save the life of the baby who after birth was unstable.

“On our way at 12:30am after Han they stopped us in the bush…..they were four armed men who beat three of us including the mother of the baby and a relative. They took away all their monies and mobile phones and made us to lie on the road for close to two hours”, he disclosed.

This resulted in delaying the journey and the death of the infant.

The matter has since been reported to the Wa Police but officials of the Sir John Ambulance in Tumu say they are now sacred to respond to emergency calls at night especially between the Tumu and Gwollu stretch of the road following the increasing spate of robbery attacks.
