EOCO probe: Nduom doesn’t matter to Mahama – NDC

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rubbished claims by the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) that President John Mahama is behind the probe into the campaign finances of Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom.

The Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO), according to the Daily Graphic, sent letters to the standard bearers of the PPP and the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Nduom and Dr. Hassan Ayariga respectively, giving them up to Wednesday, October 26, to explain the source of funding of aspects of their political campaigns.

EOCO, in the said letter, is demanding Dr. Nduom to explain to it the source of the over GHc1.7million he used to pay for his filing fees and of his parliamentary candidates.

Again, EOCO, stated in the letter to Ayariga that it was interested in his claims that he expended over $6 million to procure vehicles among others. Ayariga made this revelation on Starr Chat on Starr103.5FM recently.

The PPP is pointing fingers at Mahama for being behind the development.

However, speaking on the issue Monday, Mr. Kofi Adams, the campaign coordinator of the NDC, said Mahama has more “serious” issues to deal with.

“We are a very serious party and we must make our politics sound a bit serious,” Mr. Adams told Accra-based Joy FM.

“The NDC is serious and focused. We won’t control any state institution whether independent or non-independent. President Mahama will not call them [EOCO] to order yester or tomorrow. The PPP can’t hide and accuse others… there are more serious things to do.

“Go and ask BNI and EOCO about the probe. When somebody is not able to file his papers too, it’s the president. Why must we always blame the president or look for someone to accuse?” Mr. Adam noted.

The PPP has described EOCO’s action as “shameful and selective injustice.”
