The Government of Hungary has reopened its embassy in Ghana after 30 years of closure.
The reopening ceremony took place at the Accra residence of the Hungarian Ambassador to Ghana.
Prior to reopening the embassy, the government of Hungary had said it would open national trading houses in sub-Saharan Africa as part of measures to intensify trade and diplomatic ties with the continent.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Minister, Hanna Tetteh, said at the ceremony that: “What this reopening of the embassy means is that in the first instance, Hungarian citizens resident in Ghana will now have an embassy to interact with to be able deal with their processes, which I know they are all happy about.”
“Another thing is that it gives opportunity for Ghanaians who want to take advantage of opportunities in Hungary to also have a direct point of contact instead of having to go all the way to Abuja to go and engage the Hungarian embassy.
“Then it also gives the opportunity for the embassy to promote what it sees as opportunities for the private sector but also to promote opportunities for Ghanaians in Hungary. And, so, all through it, it enhances the relationship and that is what the reopening of this stands for,” Ms Tetteh added.
