The Attorney General(AG) has directed all striking members of the Association of State Attorneys to resume work effective Friday, October 21, or lose their remuneration.
This comes after a directive issued by the National Labour Commission(NLC) over the ongoing strike by the Attorneys.
The Association yesterday declared a strike over government’s inability to resolve some outstanding issues relating to their salaries.
They also raised a number of other concerns relating to the failure to enforce an earlier ruling by the NLC.
A circular issued by the AG’s Department and signed by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Suleman Ahmed said the strike is illegal.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Ebenezer Owusu Ansah in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM questioned the basis of the strike by the State Attorneys when their issues are being discussed to find an amicable solution to it.
“We’re surprised why they should be on strike…If you are on arbitration you don’t go on strike and to a large extent their issues are being resolved,” he stated.
He noted that if they fail to heed to the directive they won’t get paid at the end of the month.
