Akufo-Addo storms Ashanti region to diffuse NDC’s 1.5m vote’s threat

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo has resumed his campaign from the stronghold of the party, the Ashanti region.

His tour is scheduled to take him to constituencies in the Ashanti region which have strong ties with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) like the Asawase, Oforikrom etc.

The NDC launched its Ashanti regional campaign on Saturday October 15 where the Vice president Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur said the party is targeting about 1.5 million votes in that region.

Some political pundits have indicated that Nana Akufo Addo’s tour of select constituencies won by the NDC in the Ashanti region, is to counter what president John Mahama has done in the Northern part of the Volta region in constituencies which consistently vote NPP.

From there Nana Addo would pay a courtesy call on some chiefs and later hold mini rallies to reiterate the party’s message of change for the Ghanaian economy.

The President on Monday started his tour of the Volta region which has been touted as the world bank of the NDC.

Some constituencies in the Volta region especially northern Volta have consistently voted NPP due to the nature of the settlement which is good mix of Ashanti’s and some northerners.

Nana Addo is expected to spend about 5 days in the Ashanti region.
