NCCE director urges unit committees to cooperate with chiefs

Toase (Ash), Dec 15, GNA- Unit committees and assembly members have been advised to co-operate with chiefs in their communities to ensure peace and development.

Mr Kusi Aborah, the Ashanti Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) said there would be no progress where there is division among chiefs, unit committees and assembly members.

He was speaking at a durbar of chiefs, unit committee and assembly members at Toase at the weekend.

Mr Aborah advised them to monitor the implementation of self-help projects to ensure that they were properly executed. Mr Emmanuel Atobrah, the Atwima District Director of the NCCE, appealed to the people to cultivate communal spirit to step up development of their communities.

He cautioned that the concept of the unit committees and assembly members was not introduced to be used as tools for destoolment of chiefs but to help deepen democracy and the rapid development of communities. Nana Asiama Poku Afrifa II, Toasehene, who chaired the function, advised his sub-chiefs to co-operate with the unit committees and assembly members.
