Teachers warned against drunkenness and absenteeism

Nalerigu (N/R), Dec. 15, GNA- The Northern Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Mr. J. B. Abu has warned teachers especially those in the North not to indulge in drunkenness, absenteeism and other acts that would tarnish the image of the profession.
He noted that in spite of the fact that a lot had been said against drunkenness, some teachers found it very difficult to stop the practice, especially those in the remote areas, warning that the GES would not “accommodate” any such negative practices. Mr. Abu gave the warning at Nalerigu during a two-day working visit to the East Mamprusi District to know at first-hand problems confronting teachers in the area and how best GNAT could assist in addressing them. The visit took Mr. Abu to Nakpanduri, Bunkpurugu and Nalerigu where he interacted with teachers and Circuit Supervisors. Mr. Abu advised the teachers to live up to expectation by ensuring that the school children perform well during examinations.
