Speed up our ex- gratia – Akoto Osei tells Mahama

Former Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and MP for Old Tafo, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, has called on the government to as a matter of urgency speed up the payment of their (MPs) conditions of service.

The conditions of service of MPs include salaries, ex-gratia and other facilities which Article 71 constitutionally mandates the President to put in place a committee not more than five persons to make proposals.

The sixth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana is barely coming to an end; however it seems the committee set up by the President is delaying its proposal and has not furnished Parliament with a copy.

This, he explained could create unnecessary pressure within the process hence a proper assessment and evaluation could not be ascertain.

According the MP, their current salaries, allowances and facilities were proposals from the 2012 committee and there is the need for President Mahama to fulfill his obligation before the end of his tenure of office.
