Military man not under investigation for drinking Kalyppo – Army PRO

The Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Armed Forces Colonel Aggrey Quarshie, has told Lantam Papanko on the Ultimate Breakfast Show that Private Osei Owusu of the Ghana Military Police is not being investigated for drinking Kalyppo as reported in sections of the media.

He insists the officer is under investigations for breaching Armed Forces Regulations of publicizing himself without authority.

“No one is being investigated for drinking Kalyppo…….No one is allowed to pass something to a third party without authority. The officer publicized himself and the institution does not encourage that. You called me because you saw his picture widely circulated”, he said.

The army PRO disclosed that it is not an offence for officers to take pictures in uniform but such persons flout the laws if the pictures are given to third parties for publication purposes the reason Private Osei Owusu is being investigated.

“You can take pictures with your uniform but if you give it to the wrong person is an offence. If you take a picture and post it on facebook it is an offence. Any picture that will bring the name of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) into disrepute, will be investigated”, he added.

According to him, investigations have since been concluded and the soldier is back to post but will not disclose details of the investigations.

A picture of Private Owusu dressed in his military police outfit clutching the Kalyppo drink circulated social media, barely three days after a picture of the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo sipping the fruit juice went viral on the same platform.
