Suhum (E/R), DEC 8, GNA – Pensioners in Suhum, Apedwa and Kibi have threatened to go on the street to demand their pay arrears which is due them since last year October but which Controller and Accountant General Department has refused to pay.
A spokesman of the pensioners at Apedwa, Opanin Edward Okain, told the Ghana News Agency that the government approved five per cent pay increase for pensioners throughout the country in October last year but pensioners at Suhum, Apedwa and Kibi never received theirs.
He said those who paid 50,000 cedis bribe at the office of the Controller and Accountant General Department received theirs.
The Medical Superintendent In-charge of Friday’s Memorial Clinic, Dr A.O. Nattey-Marbel who is also a pensioner, confirmed the story and expressed concern about the situation and appealed to the government to do something about it ”before it is too late.”
The Secretary to the Ghana Pensioners Association in the suhum/Kraboa/Coatar District, Mr. S. K. Adu, said the pensioners have sent a petition to the government on the issue and that by December 15 if nothing is heard the association would advise itself.
